Heavyweights is the realization of Bobby Shew’s long-time dream of collaborating with the extraordinary trombonist Carl Fontana. The quintet includes pianist George Cables, bassist Bob Magnusson and drummer Joe LaBarbera. The album features nine standards including Bag’s Groove, The Girl From Ipanema and Night and Day. The St. Louis Post Dispatch hailed Heavyweights as a serious contender for album of the year.
