The Bridge Ensemble
Biography
Critics nationwide agree that The Bridge is “phenomenal,” “riveting,” “illuminating,” “savvy and sensitive,” “unfailingly passionate,” “absolutely fantastic,” “flawless,” with “almost telepathic communication,” and “in every respect, world class.” * (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
Enjoying an abundant repertoire, they present distinctive performances of the great classic repertory as well as less familiar masterpieces by composers such as Suk, Chausson, Schnittke, Schulhoff, Part, Harbison, and Asia. In October 1988, at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, The Bridge gave the world premiere perforance of a work commissioned from Giya Kanchelli, one of the most sought-after composers today. Afterwards, the Seattle Times wrote, “…their rapt audience seemed genuinely moved. And well they should be…In terms of musicianship, taste, intonation, innovation, accuracy and sheer command of detail, The Bridge ranks in the top echelon of today’s chamber groups.”
The Bridge is the only Seattle-based group ever to appear in the prestigious University of Washington International Chamber Music Series (1994), and they performed by special request for the Music Critic Association of North America during its 1995 Annual Conference. For four years they were a mainstay at the International Music Festival of Seattle, playing “in their usual marvelously uninhibited and engaging way,” and many times “bringing the full house to its feet.” The Bridge has been featured at festivals in Holland and Russia, performed at numerous contect venues in the United States and has appeared on St. Paul Sunday Morning (NPR).
