Live at the Iridium – Nobuki Takamen
A mainstay on the New York jazz scene, Nobuki Takamen and his band are incredible form. This performance is heart- pumping ‘electric’ with melodic original lines that’ll send chills up your spine!
This was recorded live with his regular group at Iridium Jazz Club in NYC on July 15th, 2009 approximately two weeks after returning from a Canadian tour including the Montreal Jazz Festival 2009 – The group performed only one set that evening so what you hear is exactly what happened. This live recording will make listeners feel as if they are listening to the live show at Iridium Jazz Club that night. These tunes are masterfully performed and this is an incredibly enjoyable live recording.
‘…a keen sense of melody and taste…’
– Jazz Guitar Life
‘…a style that ranges from relaxed to fiery…’ –
– Scott Yanow, LA Jazz Scene
‘…prodigious technique…lyrical melodies akin to James Taylor’s, which sink into the mind, inviting subconscious lyrick-writing from even the most casual listen.’
– Allaboutjazz.com
‘Takamen has become a mainstay in New York’s jazz clubs, and this record shows him to be a mature player with a keen sense of composition, considerable technical skill, and a supportive band (especially pianist Hitoshi Kanda) that helps bring Takamen’s compositions to fruition…Takamen may only be in his early 30s, but shows maturity and skills that indicate he could remain a mainstay on the jazz scene for decades to come.’
