On May 30, 1991, fans from all over the world gathered in Newport Beach, California to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stan Kenton’s debut at the famed Rendezvous Ballroom. Radio station KLON had assembled a 4 day event consisting of 18 concerts and 10 panel discussions to commemorate not only the anniversary but the enduring legacy Stan Kenton had left behind.
Those featured on the 5 disc set include: Maynard Ferguson and the Big Bop Noouveau Band, The Bill Holman Big Band, The Bob Florence Limited Edition, the Lighthouse All-Stars, The Buddy Childers Big Band, the Lee Konitz Quartet, The Bob Cooper Quartet, The Tom Talbert Jazz Orchestra, The Bud Shank Quartet and the Mark Masters Jazz Orchestra.
This five-disc set showcases an all-star reunion orchestra of original band members as well as various groups led by different Kenton proteges. There’s even a compilation of panel discussions, with Kenton band members sharing colorful stories and recollections. The package, which contains a handsome 52-page booklet, is a ‘must have’ for every Kenton fan.
