Besides being the father of composer Richard Strauss and one of the preeminent hornists of the 19th century, Franz Strauss (1822-1905) was also a composer of importance for the horn. Complementary works by Robert Schumann and Richard Strauss round out the album.
John Ericson serves on the brass faculty at Arizona State University. He has published a number of articles on the history and performance of the horn in The Horn Call and other journals. Pianist Gail Novak is an active accompanist in Arizona, Nevada, California, and New Mexico.
